Green Tea vs. Black Tea vs. Coffee - caffeine content

Despite the fact that Green Tea and Black Tea do not contain as much caffeine as coffee, their overal amount of caffeine is generally quite high. Because of this, you should limit your daily Green Tea or Black Tea intake.

There are many types of coffee and tea, so the amount of caffeine may vary.
But Green Tea contains less caffeine than Black Tea. And Black Tea contains less caffeine than Coffee.

Caffeine amounts:
  • Coffee - Depends on the type of coffee. Small cup of coffee contains 40mg - 45mg of caffeine on average. Medium cup of coffee contains 80mg - 90mg of caffeine. Small espresso may contain around 65mg of caffeine.
  • Black Tea - On average 40mg - 50mg of caffeine per cup.
  • Green Tea - On average 20mg - 30mg of caffeine per cup.
It seems to be safe for most adults to intake up to 400mg of caffeine per day.

Depending on coffee type, it is equal to 3-4 regular cups of coffee.

But you should not drink too much coffee.
