It is not recommended to leave phone charging overnight or during all day. Some phone manufacturers do not recommend to leave phones connected to the charger for a long period of time.

The most smartphones automatically stop the charging, when battery is charged to 100%, so you can not overcharge your battery. But after battery is fully charged and phone is still connected to the charger, it will start charging when the charge level drops below 100%.

To extend lifespan of a lithium-ion phone batteries, some manufacturers recommend to not fully charge the battery. To maximize battery life, you should keep the charge level between 20% to 90%. Depending on phone brand and model, it is recommended to start charging at 20% - 40% and stop charging at 70% - 90%.

To stop charging at a certain charge level, you can use some of the battery charging apps.
