Both MSC and ASC are certification programs, setting the standards for sustainable and responsible seafood.

MSC - Marine Stewardship Council is an organization which sets standards for sustainable fishing. MSC focuses on wild-caught fish. The MSC label cam be only applied to wild fish or seafood from fisheries that have been certified to sustainable fishing standard.

ASC - Aquaculture Stewardship Council is an organization which sets standards for sustainable aquaculture. ASC focuses on aquaculture (farming).

MSC is a label for wild-caught fish or other seafood, while ASC is a label for farmed seafood. Both MSC and ASC fishes can be from the sea. Fishes can be farmed in the sea - it is so called offshore aquaculture.
