The amount of protein is different for each meat cut. For example, chicken breast has more protein than chicken wings or chicken legs.
When comparing the nutrition tables, you have to check if declared amount of protein in grams relates to:
- Raw meat or Cooked meat - the overall weight or cooked meat is usually lower, so it contains a higher percentage of protein per 100 grams.
- Meat cut or Lean meat only - for example, Beef Rib-Eye steak has around 20% of fat, but Beef Fillet steak has around 10% of fat, so simply said, the lesser the fat, the higher the percentage of protein per 100 grams.
In general, meat rich in protein doesn't have too much fat. For example, chicken breast (skinless), highly rich in protein has only around 5% of fat.
Meat with most protein:- Venison - lean cuts
- Turkey (turkey breast)
- Chicken (chicken breast)
- Fish - some fishes and other seafood are protein rich (salmon, tuna, trout, mussels, shrimps)
- Beef - lean cuts have a higher percentage of protein (sirloin, tenderloin, eye of round)
- Lamb - lean cuts have a higher percentage of protein (lamb is quite a low-fat meat)
