When I have found a lost wallet and I will drop it to mailbox, will the post office return it to its owner ? Should I rely on this ?

The dropping of lost wallet into post office's mailbox is common in the United States. The wallet should be returned to the address found on an ID. But I would not rely that 100% of wallets dropped into mailbox will be returned to the owner.

Returning of the lost wallet to its owner using post service's mailbox may be common also in other countries, but it is not common everywhere.

When you find a lost wallet and you are not sure if post office in your country delivers wallets dropped into their mailbox, the best what you can probably do, is give it to a police station.

If you give lost wallet to police, it is increasing the chance that wallet will be returned to the owner.
