Excel and Word menu tabs & tools in toolbars disabled / grayed out

Hello,
On my company laptop, when I open a document in Excel or Word, I can't edit the content, because menu tabs and tools in toolbars are grayed out. I can't use the formatting, formulas, pivot tables or charts.

What should I do to make the tools clickable ?

The first possible reason why tools in toolbar are grayed out can be, that document is opened in protected view mode or read only mode. In this mode the document editing is disabled. Usually you get a notification that document is opened in protected view. If there is an Enable editing button displayed, you have to click on it.

You can also enable editing in File > Options > Advanced > Allow editing directly in cells

Another possible reason why tools in toolbar are grayed out can be, that you have been using the trial version of Microsoft Office and now it is expired. To use the document editing mode, you have to activate your Microsoft Office.

To activate Microsoft Office, click on File, then on Account, log into your Microsoft account and follow the instructions. The activation process can be done in a few minutes.
